DescriptionDrawing, using colored pencils on Arches paper, of the limb of a tree – life-sized. The drawing was then mounted on gessoed canvas, and hand-cut forms were created. One of the cut pieces was removed; the other was left umbilically attached to the drawing. Both cut pieces were folded together into a fully three-dimensional form – Ress’ attempt to show the ‘Lorenz Manifold’. It is based on the mathematical Lorenz equations, which describe the nature of chaotic systems.
