DescriptionThis piece is a part of a series of works that were created while in residency with Pyramid Atlantic in the fall of 2010. This body of work was inspired by the abstract/impressionist work of Japanese landscape painter, Chuta Kimura, (1917-1987). Kimura spent the latter part of his life in France painting the garden of Clos-Saint Pierre, and the landscapes of Provence. This series of mono print landscapes, capture the Washington, D.C. area, with a focus on the National Arboretum, Malcolm X Park, Rock Creek Park and the gardens of the Smithsonian. Actual textures from area plants were captured by photograph and printed into the mono prints using the silkscreen process. These mono prints include: silkscreen, relief printing, acrylic painting, drawing, and spray paint. I created the paper from cotton and linen while in residency at Pyramid Atlantic.
