DescriptionThis piece is from a series titled “Commodity Aesthetics,” in which Matthew Mann plays with and reverses the use value of art and design objects. Here, the edge of a framed drawing by self-taught Mexican American artist Martin Ramirez hangs against wallpaper with an 18th-century pattern. At the lower left hangs a framed poster for a rally and concert that was held to benefit people experiencing homelessness. The mixing of these disparate motifs and materials invites the viewer to make new associations among various types of cultural representation, markets, and aesthetics
