DescriptionTo Ellington Robinson, creating art is a physical, psychological, and spiritual experience. In conceiving of his work, he considers how people arrive at a particular location. This might involve modes of physical transportation like trains and cars, transformative experiences of education and religion, and engagement with the celestial and eternal realms. Robinson collects materials to build or collage into the artwork, such as travel documents, vinyl record sleeves, and cassette tapes. He also includes interoffice envelopes inscribed with the names of ancestors, musicians, freedom fighters, and literary figures.
