DescriptionRegarding the aesthetic and political stratification of place, this painting depicts a now lost I.M. Pei designed church atop an image of Rhodes Tavern. Rhodes Tavern, also demolished, was a polling place during the first city council election in DC, and was razed through a decline by the Supreme Court to stay its demolition in 1979 making it symbolic of the issue of Home Rule in DC. The title itself refers to the influential DC hardcore band Dag Nasty’s song “Wig Out At Denko’s”.
