DescriptionDrawing, using colored pencils on Arches paper, of two endangered Hawaiian birds, that Ress made while in residence at the Smithsonian Natural History Museum’s Bird Division. She challenged herself with the question: how few circle cuts will it take to shift the head of each bird to the other’s body? She made a file for 2 circles, and had them cut on a laser-cutter. It was a sequential process – cutting one circle, shifting one bird’s head to the other’s body and reattaching it, then cutting the second circle and swinging that piece back around to the first bird.
