DescriptionHand dancing (also called DC swing or, in its early years, fast dance) originated in DC in the 1950s. It is known for its smooth footwork and complex hand turns. While it has fallen in and out of favor over the decades, in 1999, when this photograph was taken, it was recognized by the DC Council as the official dance of the District.
