DescriptionSWEPT YARD is a site-responsive installation from artists Curry Hackett and Patrick McDonough, located in a triangle park in the historically African-American community of Kingman Park in Washington DC. Inspired by traditions of gathering and care, the installation features custom seating elements referencing porch steps and awnings in an ode to the vernacular domestic architecture of the surrounding neighborhood. Interspersed amongst the seating are community planks - elements that bring together stories, anecdotes, textures and community-sourced artifacts into a literal and metaphorical neighborhood quilt.
