DescriptionAs an interdisciplinary artist, Holly Bass uses live performances as source material to create videos, still images, and installations. She also conducts archival research and interviews family members or local residents to gain a deeper understanding of the history and social issues of a given place. Crossing began as a video performance in which Bass follows behind her father as they make their way through a field of tall cotton. Drawing on heritage and history, this piece was performed and documented in Berrien County, Georgia, where the artist’s father worked in the cotton fields from age five to fifteen.
