DescriptionFrom the moment I realized my first digital assemblages were more than curious experiments, I needed to look at the work of painters, for creating a single work from hundreds of images gave me enormous control over my compositions and with a plasticity more akin to drawing and painting than traditional camera arts. I first devoured the Cubists, especially Braque and Picasso, along with Rivera and both the work and writings of David Hockney. l revisited my favorite 15th century Flemish masters, and then discovered the 15th century Sienese masters, most importantly the Master of the Osservanza, Bartolo de Fredi, and Sassetta. In February 2015 I took a Bolt bus to New York to see the exhibit Cubism: Braque, Gris, Leger, Picasso and by the time I got home I knew the subject of my next piece would be a still life.
