Description"Half-Light" is a painting about a time of day and a way of seeing. The time of day is twilight, when light fades at the horizon, but color in the landscape flares up with renewed purity just before disappearing until the next morning. We need a special way of seeing at that time of day. It is what we use whenever we have less than perfect vision and we fill in the missing parts with what we already know, or think we know. We might rely on this way of seeing to make it home when caught out after dark without a light. But our powerful ability to fill in the missing pieces can also get in the way of truly seeing what is in front of us.
