DescriptionShelley Lowenstein is a keen observer of people and places, and she has a passion for capturing the casual interactions that course through everyday life. Focusing on gesture and body language, she delights in exploring the relationships among figures. During the Covid-19 pandemic, Lowenstein created My Brother’s Keeper as part of a series titled “My Country Tis of Thee.” Here, all individuals are masked to protect themselves and others. In some places, Lowenstein left spaces where people are missing, gesturing toward the loss, and the mutual care, that emerged from the pandemic.
