DescriptionA first-generation Vietnamese American artist, Anthony Le grew up in the American South, where he felt his identity made him an outsider. Now, he highlights these differences as a source of empowerment, asking questions about the Asian American experience and sometimes returning to his own childhood memories. In Oh Brother, Anthony and his younger brother hold a bunch of small bananas common in some Southeast Asian countries. These bananas may have brought unwelcome attention to Le and his brother in their youth, but Le now feels that this type of difference offers power and distinction.
