John James Anderson
John James Anderson is an interdisciplinary artist whose work has been exhibited throughout the United States and covered in The Washington Post, Washington City Paper, The Miami Herald, Miami New Times, and Hyperallergic, among others.
Since 2007, he has been writing arts coverage and criticism, which has appeared on DCist, Washington City Paper, The Washington Times, Art in America, and re:sculpt (the blog of the International Sculpture Center), among others. Toward the end of 2016, he took a break from making artwork to focus on writing and curatorial projects. In 2017, he was selected for the Art Writing Workshop—a partnership between the Arts Writers Grant Program and the International Art Critics Association/USA Section (AICA/USA).
Previously, Anderson was the program coordinator for visual communication in the Department of Art at Prince George’s Community College in Largo, MD. He has also taught at American University, The George Washington University, George Mason University, and The Corcoran College of Art and Design.
Anderson has an MFA in Painting from American University, and a BFA in Graphic Design and BFA in Drawing, Painting, & Printmaking, each from Iowa State University.
