Marta Pèrez Garcià

Marta Pèrez Garcià uses printmaking, painting, mixed media, and large-scale installations to comment and reflect on the human condition. Most recently, she has focused on gender violence and the blindness of society to it. Her prints use the woodcarving reduction process: she draws directly on a wood board, then carves it, applying one color at a time and printing on paper each color successively.

Born in Puerto Rico, Pèrez Garcià received a BFA a Louisiana State University and an MFA at Tyler School of Arts. She also took intaglio classes at the Atelier Francoise Bricault, Paris, France. She has exhibited in Washington, DC; France; Puerto Rico; Brazil, and other locations. Her work is held in private and public collections in Washington, DC; New York; and Puerto Rico. Pèrez Garcià has taught at universities, museums, and charter schools and received many awards.
