DescriptionAt the Go-Go is a love note to the city of Washington DC’s Go-Go music history and aesthetic, specifically DC’s photobooth culture popularized during the 1990’s and 2000’s. Native Washingtonians and fans of DC’s Go-Go and club culture might recognize the posed performance that Jean-Pierre references, which celebrates the feeling of getting dressed up and creating a document of a fun night out in the District. The artwork is a mixed media collage created using paper, paint, and fabric materials. This series was also inspired by Caribbean and Latin American authors from Edwidge Danticate and Franz Fanon to Jamaica Kincad and Paulo Lins.
