DescriptionAaron Maier works from memories, personal photographs, and writings to make paintings that help him better understand his connection to Indigeneity, Latinidad, Whiteness, Jewishness and Maleness. He mines raw, sensitive emotions that are often buried in his memories. Bacon Hollow Rd. references Maier’s experience of being sent to boarding school in the Blue Ridge Mountains at age twelve, and the loneliness, fear, and helplessness that accompanied the experience. The thickly layered paint serves as a psychological repository for an evolving sense of self.
