DescriptionRaised in the idiosyncratic environment of Wisconsin, I have long understood art through the lens of an outsider. That is to say I recognize the percentage of the population that participates in the making or viewing of contemporary art is currently small, but need not be. I therefore seek to produce projects in contexts and symbolic languages that are populist and accessible yet challenging and progressive, aimed at both frequent and non-typical art participants alike. This particular conviction is well suited for Washington DC, a place commonly perceived as a non-art center yet rife with engaged, caring residents of countless knowledges, backgrounds and fluencies. Awning Studies series recognizes and proclaims the awning as THE cornerstone example of exterior domestic architectural adornment in DC.
