DescriptionIn October 2012, Ringwald made two miniature relief sculptures of scrap wood. One was open and window like. That piece became the starting point for the Fractured Square series. Small farm buildings are often made of the leftover materials from the bigger barns. They are called dependencies. She has often used leftover materials from larger sculptures to make smaller works. Fractured Square #1 is constructed of wood molding to create an abstract window form. Ringwald liked the idea of seeing through the sculptures and playing with color.
