DescriptionDC native Michael B. Platt spent a long, celebrated career creating images that explore rites and rituals, marginalization and survival, and the transformation of the human spirit. The Journey was created to honor the tenth anniversary of 9/11, and the artist intended it to speak to the ways in which some individuals survive attacks on their countries while others do not. The themes seen here—the layering of images and media, the human figure often floating or flying, and the African diaspora body—are integral to Platt’s work.
