DescriptionThis photograph, featuring elegant lines and arrangements of color against a bright blue sky, is one of a series taken by MacLean at the annual Chinese Lunar New Year parade. Designed by Alfred Liu in 1985 and dedicated the following year, Chinatown’s Friendship Arch symbolizes the relationship between Washington, DC, and its sister city, Beijing. The arch was restored to its original glory in 2020.
