Description"Noise/Silence" is from a series of work Richard Dana exhibited at Instituto Camoes in Brasilia, Brazil in 2001. The exhibition was entitled Duality and consisted of twenty two works of art. As with Noise/Silence, all the work had two images side by side which related to each other visually, had bold coloration and suggested a duality. In regard to Noise/Silence, the image on the left, Noise, contains a form suggestive of a wind instrument such as a saxophone. The multicolored form is, one might say, vibratingly loud. Silence, the image on the right, is the Noise form flipped upside-down and painted in a much narrower range of hues and colors and is relatively more muted than the Noise form. In this painting the stippled dots were made with ceramic paint; everything else was the product of acrylic paint and a brush.
