Leslie Nolan

BiographyLeslie Nolan paints in oil, acrylic and watercolor. Raised in Oregon, she lived and worked abroad and in the US with several federal government agencies doing national security work before devoting her full energies to art making. Keeping secrets and operating in sometimes unstable areas pervade her paintings, as do the cultures and colors of exotic locales. She specializes in abstract figures that feature strong emotions, explosive color, and bold brushwork by depicting what is felt rather than what is seen. She also captures a unique urban ascetic that reflects a blur between the real and imagined.

Nolan exhibits primarily in the Washington, DC, area and also appears in international and national juried shows. Her work has been in the collection of the American Embassy in Luanda, Angola and exhibited in London, UK. She is in Who's Who of American Women and holds membership in the Washington Project for the Arts. She was a founding member of MAX21, a contemporary art cooperative in Reston, VA. Nolan studied at the University of Madrid in Spain and hold degrees from George Washington University (MS), National Defense University (MS), and Portland State University (BA).
