Ann Marie Williams

Ann Marie Williams embraces the term “abstract expressionism” to describe her work: “It feeds my soul with its experimentation of colors and textures, as well as the use of new materials and techniques.” Her paintings are very expressive and incorporate acrylics, collage and oil pastel to achieve the desired effect.

Much of her art is the visual equivalent of blues, jazz, gospel or the African beat, rich in color and movement. She seeks to evoke a response from the viewer; therefore the titles of her paintings are very important to her. She wants the viewer to see what she sees, and feel what she feels. Sometimes she may have a subject in mind, or at other times she lets the painting speak to her.

Her work is very intuitive and she states: “My inspiration is derived from God’s gift, family, cultural experiences and social commentary.”

She starts with a cross on her canvas and sometimes adds a cross to the finished piece. It may not always be visible but she knows it’s there.
