Jonathan French

Librarian by profession and photographer by passion, French worked at the Library of Congress for 28 years and has been photographing since 1975. He earned a degree in Media Technology and was introduced to photography during college. After taking one course, he read about and experimented with photography and became a self-taught photographer. His works are influenced by his experience at the Library of Congress and constant reading and learning of new cultures. His experience as a social work for four years after college makes his works socially and culturally conscience. Also, many of his artworks have been influenced by his love for music.

French has taught photography to the youth for over 16 years, locally, and internationally in Cuba, Colombia and Uganda. Each international teaching experience created works for exhibits. The Cuban and Colombian works have been exhibited in the Washington, DC area, and the Colombian works were shown at the Anacostia Arts Center in July 2015. French’s works have been exhibited in various parts of Africa, the Caribbean, Paris across the USA and throughout the Washington, DC tristate area.
