Joey Mánlapaz
Joey P. Mánlapaz is a painter, educator, and curator, living and working in Washington, DC. Focusing her eye on the city of Washington, she maintains a painterly, photorealist style and a psychological sensibility. Mánlapaz’s paintings have been exhibited at galleries and museums nationwide, and the US Library of Congress and First Lady Laura Bush commissioned her for the 2003 National Book Festival. Her papers, correspondence and sketchbooks are in the collection of the US Library of Congress Asian American and Pacific Islander Division. A replica of one of her paintings is installed permanently at the Bethesda Metro Tunnel. Mánlapaz’s paintings are widely collected in the US and internationally by private and corporate art collectors.
Born in Quezon City, Philippines, and raised in metropolitan DC, Mánlapaz attended the George Washington University, earning a BA in Fine Arts and Zoology and an MFA in Painting. When Mánlapaz is not at her easel, she is happiest offering art workshops to older adults at assisted living and memory care facilities at Forest Hills of DC and Charles E. Smith Life Communities. She is associate faculty at the Corcoran School of Art and Design at George Washington University and a Lecturer at The Art League (Alexandria, VA).
