The materials I have submitted to CAH’s Art Bank Collection are all from an ongoing project that focuses on Mrs. Betty House - an amazing woman and poet who currently resides at the Arthur Capper Senior Center in Southeast, DC.
I was introduced to Mrs. House in 2013 when working on a project that was documenting the Navy Yard neighborhood. I began spending time with her at the Capper Center where she openly invited me to be a part of her community and family. As the years have passed she has invited me to her church to photograph and meet her very tight and loving spiritual community.
The photographs and video submitted are a documentation of this friendship. Not only do they focus on an incredible DC resident, but they also show the beauty of her community and that of the city.
