DescriptionInspired by the Spinners song “Sadie,” this mixed media collage repurposes personal items, including Tonisha’s bonnet and Eleisha’s earrings, as well as paper, fabric, a photograph, and other materials. Through their interdisciplinary practice, the McCorkle sisters attest to the multidimensionality of spirit. They reconstruct narratives relating to the black experience to reflect and encourage dialogue on the nurturing elements of soul food, motherhood, and healing. Their work highlights the inequities of their experience as black bodies and celebrates the power and resiliency of black women. Presented on a scroll, Sadie’s Home presents a narrative of black ritual, resilience, and truth.
