DescriptionAs an Arab American born in Lebanon, Zughaib combines her background in the Middle East with her experiences in America. She believes that the arts are an important tool for shaping and fostering dialogue and positive ideas between the two places, especially in the wake of 9/11, wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, and recent revolutions and crises across the Arab world resulting from the 2010 uprisings or “Arab Spring.” Zughaib’s artworks challenge stereotypes of Arab Americans and bring together East and West by referencing both iconic Western painters and the abaya, the traditional black thobe worn in many parts of the Arab world.
