DescriptionNara Park’s sculptures investigate the ways in which a person or thing can seem to be a replica of itself after it is gone. She questions the meaning of authenticity and tries to understand what exists beyond our superficial perception. To this end, Park uses false materials to appear as something else. Here, she crafts wallpaper to replicate stone blocks. Just as stone is used in many cultures to commemorate those who are no longer with us—symbolizing strength and stability—the appearance of stone in Park’s work indicates memorialization and a desire for permanence.
