DescriptionBoth of James Brown, Jr.’s parents worked with textiles, his father as an upholsterer and interior designer and his mother as a milliner. Brown adopted textiles in his own artistic practice, using techniques of stitching, embroidery, silk painting, appliquéing strips and felting, both wet and needle. As in this piece, his textile works often combine elements of the natural landscape and the human figure, with an emphasis on pattern and symmetry. When he produced this work in 2019, he declared that it would be his final body of felt work.
