Description“Playtime” was the first piece where Ann Marie Williams used strips of color, collage and oil pastel. She feels she achieved a painting that comes alive with color and movement. Her artistic inspiration for this painting was Marcia Staiger, an artist at the Torpedo Factory, who helped her take the “leap” from more realistic work to “abstract expressionism.” The title refers to the apples at the top that have a playful feel. Their movement and light line move across the canvas. The one orange stands out as different from the rest. That was intentional but she is not sure why. Perhaps it was to show diversity, which is sometimes a theme in her work.
