Michael Torra

Born in Los Angeles to Cuban and Dutch parents, Michael Torra was raised in Southern California and the Netherlands. He attended Occidental College and Tufts University. Torra began his career as a sculptor, first using cotton board and later focusing on wood and metal. After finishing college, he moved into painting and took several painting classes at The Art League in Alexandria, VA. His paintings inherited the geometric forms of his earlier sculpture, plus the additional element of bright, bold colors. While living in the Washington, DC, area, Torra exhibited his work regionally, undertook numerous commissions, and was a member of Mid City Artists and the Triangle Artists Group. He currently lives and works in Oakland, CA.
