I paint what I see. I try to paint what I don’t see—that which is not obvious: meaning if there is no meaning, there is no art. It’s what makes us human. I can’t just imitate life; I have to find the value of it. The worth of it. The power of it. The movement of it. The same is true when I write about art in my column, books, and plays. I look for meaning. When I write about the art of others, I try to view it through their eyes, their senses to find their meanings. Their power. Their worth.
