Dorothy Weintraub

BiographyDorothy Weintraub grew up in an artist family. Her parents met at the Corcoran School of Art. Her Mother was a portrait painter and Dorothy was taken to many art shows growing up.

Dorothy majored in art at Syracuse University and did graduate work at American University. She also painted at the Corcoran School of Art.

Next, she enrolled in George Washington University's first Art Therapy Program, becoming a registered Art Therapist after completing her MA degree. Dorothy enjoyed working in a community mental health center for 20 years, always painting on her days off.

Dorothy has exhibited at the Cosmos Club, The Potter's House, in Adam’s Morgan, where she lived, and a Yoga studio, all in Washington, DC.

Dorothy volunteered at Christ House in DC as an art therapist with groups of formerly homeless men.

She moved to San Francisco to live with a wonderful man and continued to volunteer as a registered art therapist. In the years 2009 to 2014 she volunteered at a Homeless Prenatal Program, Golden Gate Senior Services and the Institute on Aging, doing art therapy.

From 1994 to present Dorothy has devoted herself to painting in her studio and in Golden Gate Park in San Francisco. She is a member of the San Francisco Women’s Art Gallery and has been in many exhibitions there.

At the age of 80, Dorothy met a handsome man, 15 years younger than her, and moved to San Francisco to be with him. Now, at age 89, she is happily painting in Golden Gate Park and exhibiting her paintings in the San Francisco Women’s Art Gallery. Dorothy is also a grandmother and great grandmother.
