Julie Byrne

Nature is the focus of Julie Byrne’s artwork: flowering plants and vegetation inspired by backyard and city street gardens, public parks of Washington DC, and the United States Botanic Garden. She spends time observing the details of a subject, then uses photography to capture the initial impression and to determine the structure and the focus. Much of her artwork is rendered in colored pencil, a medium that was portable enough to use during her career working on board passenger trains. She also produces oil paintings, screen prints and photographs, including documentation of life in Washington DC.
