Kasse Andrews-Weller

Born in rural Georgia, Andrews-Weller’s affinity with clay was kindled when she visited Jugtown Pottery and watched mesmerized as a lump of clay was transformed into a vessel on a handmade kick wheel. From digging clay from a local spring to making mud cakes for her pretend childhood restaurant, clay has evolved over the years as the common denominator and go to medium in her artwork. In the serenity of her studio, she recreates thoughts and memories into tangible art. Handmade quilts also serve as a common thread running through her life. Since childbirth, she has been surrounded by their warmth and comfort. She has volunteered with Quilts of Valor and distributed their quilts from quilters across the U.S. to wounded warriors in the DC area. All remnants from her late mother’s sewing of her children’s clothes were also donated for their cause. Andrews-Weller’s ceramic sewn quilt series capture various types of quilts that parallel the chapters of her life story. Her work has been exhibited widely around the DC region, she is on the steering committee of the Capitol Hill Art League and has won awards from the Department of Veterans Affairs and Artomatic.
