DescriptionChee-Keong Kung begins each artwork with a gesture: a line or stroke that will trigger subsequent actions. Combining hard-lined geometry with improvisational brushwork, he applies his medium in layers, sometimes modifying or obscuring earlier marks. His works accrue structure and meaning through the accumulation of time and attention. In the end, his process often brings him to unexpected places, culminating in artworks that combine lightness and density, inviting repeated and prolonged viewing.
